Eight boys qualify for state
History was made this year for the 2024-2025 Anamosa Boys Wrestling Team. They had eight boys qualify for state, making school history. Hunter Campion, Andrew Tjagen, Miken Wheeler, Ayden Antonelli, Dane Owen, Hudson Scranton, Hudson Welton and Austin Scranton. The boys participated in the 2A class category at state.
A summary of what happened; Andrew Tjagen went 2-2, Hudson Scranton went 3-3 getting fourth place on the podium. Hunter Campion went 3-2 and Hudson Welton went 2-2. Dane Owen had tough competition going 0-2. Miken Wheeler got a tech fall and went 2-2. Ayden Antonelli went 2-2. For the second year in a row Austin Scranton got first place, he went 4-0.
This is impressive for everyone, because state is the hardest tournament of the year. Every boy worked hard to get there no matter the record or placement. Junior, Ayden Antonelli had something to say about this,
“I felt nervous, but I've been in this situation before. I was frustrated with how I actually wrestled because I know I can do better than that. I'm coming back for more. I think our team did pretty good especially for having that many people qualify for state. We all came for more especially being under dogs,”
Wrestling is a tough sport both mentally and physically, and the Anamosa Boys showed that you are able to push even if the odds are against you.
